Hi thanks for the responses; hopefully somewhere in fairfax. Honestly when I think about it, I have no idea how any dentist could coax him to leave his mouth open. Are there special techniques I am unaware of?

Op, where are you located? That might help narrow down responses.

You dont say where you are but Growing Smiles of Northern Virginia has been great for my kid. Patient, thoughtful and kind. I’ve gone from having to hold him down at other places to just standing in the private room with him.

I have a child who is gonna have a real hard time opening his mouth to the dentist. I can barely get him to open his mouth for brushing his teeth. I have taken him to a purported special needs dentist but they really didnt do anything different and I had to hold the child down to just get a dental photo.

Now, he needs a real dental cleaning because i see yellow tartar on the back of his bottom front teeth. Im not that crazy about doing anasthesia; what are the possibilities? Thanks. I dont want to go to another dentist who advertises as a special needs dentist but doesnt really know how to approach.
