OP here- I checked on insurance. Volvo covers it for two weeks. Extensions are available.
Not convinced electric vehicles have their kinks ironed out yet. (Should I want one.) and not comfortable with Volvo’s rep for expensive and ongoing need of repairs. I wonder if the old boxy cars that lived forever is now wistful mythology.

Could happily drive around Europe for a month, but if reason prevails, I should buy a Subaru here, and make separate travel plans.

Happy to keep reading others’ experiences!

Friends did it about 10 years ago. Like others noted above, spent a few weeks driving around Europe and had a blast. They crunched the numbers and they came out ahead in the end, counting all the vacation expenses.

Have a wonderful trip!

I haven't, but I know 3 or 4 people who have done Euro pick up and had a ball (1 Volvo, 1 BMW and 2 Porsche). Take a couple weeks and drive around Europe. Drop it back at the factory and go home and it arrives a few weeks later.

I would absolutely do it. As for insurance, ask your Volvo contact about it. They would know since they do it frequently.

That’s like asking “has anyone traveled to Equatorial Guinea to get infected with malaria?”

No. No one does that.

First off, Volvos are great cars you snob. This isn’t like going to Ohio and picking up a Chevy.

But it can also be cheaper for the buyer and it’s fun to go to the factory for pickup.

My childless in laws were going to do this, it sounded fun. They ended up just buying off the lot though.

It's a nice program. You fly in, see the city, tour the factory, then get to drive around Europe.

It's worth doing if you're into Volvo, or want to take a vacation to Europe. I've done it for BMW. They have a whole delivery center in Munich. You have a nice lunch there, they show you the car, and then you drive off with it.

Then why are you here? OP asked for people to share their experiences doing it.

Yes, buying a vehicle is exactly like catching malaria.

I did European deliver with my bmw. 2000 miles driving around Europe was amazing.

Take someone who can do have the driving, preferably no kids.

I have no experience with Volvo.

Overseas delivery ends up costing less all around since the car is « used » when coming to the US.

We have a family member who has done this for their Volvo (and two previous BMWs)—fantastic experience with both companies. Volvo treated them wonderfully and they drove all over with their car. They highly recommend it.
