When I was younger - 2-3 - apparently I used to do this. I would say, "when i was here before" a fair amount. Or when we went a new place I would say I'd been there before. My mom has said she wishes she had questioned me, but they never did, and I eventually stopped. This was in the very early 1970s.

I've thought since that I am a person who doesn't like to be surprised, or feel like everyone else knows something I don't know. So I wonder if as a child I was pretending I knew what the situation/place was. Who knows. I do wish they had questioned me, it is fascinating!

in the article there are some instances of this- the mom who kept showing her kid old movies and magazines, the parents showing their kid a book about the holocaust etc. Both of things are absolutely suggestive. it’s bizarre for the parents to then claim they are not reinforcing the statements made about a past life when they keep showing their young kids materials about the time period/past life they are supposedly describing.

The story in the article about the holocaust tattoo is probably something the kiddo saw or heard somewhere. We're not with our kids all the time and they are sponges. The hear the TV at night better than we think. Etc Etc.

^^ I will add that one particular disturbing phrase she repeated around age 2 (it described death/violence and I couldn’t figure out how she had heard such a thing) turned out to be from a book (a children’s book, but the classic kind along the lines of Grimm’s fairy tales). I did not figure this out until literally years later! I think many creepy things kids say can be attributed to this kind of thing.

Not a past live but my kid would talk about 2 kids who played in the trees and came to visit him. He said he liked them during the day but not at night because they were scared. He shared their names and he said they were black like him and Daddy. The subdivision we live in was 100% an old plantation and the stables are around the corner from our house.

I still get heebie jeebies thinking about it and his storytelling was consistent for about 1-1.5 years and now he doesnt talk about it.

I was a child with past memory. I'm Indian, and lived there until I was a teen.

When I was about 3, out of the blue, I started talking about the house that I lived in, how I was married, got tired of my husband, poisoned his food and killed him, buried him under a specific tree, and told people that he left home to a holy place so they wouldn't get suspicious. I consistently repeated that story.

Freaked my grandma out, but everyone else chalked it up to my vivid imagination. Fairly recently, in the last 5 or 10 years, when my aunt was reading the newspaper, an obituary caught her eye. It was for someone that lived in the same house that I had mentioned decades ago. We didn't live anywhere near there.

I joke with my DH that he needs to watch himself, because he married a murderer.

My DD often said things that were bizarre and advanced for a child of her age around 2 to 3. She stopped around 4. It did weird me out a few times. I had spent a lot of time around other children as a nanny and had never heard other kids talk like that. It did seem to come out of nowhere. We’d be playing and then she’d say something random, with perfect annunciation, like: “That building had such beautiful stained glass windows.” Or, most creepily, “I do miss the seaside.” A few times she mentioned her brother, but I also assumed she knew kids with brothers and may be trying out pretending to have one. It never sounded like she was describing a past life or another person but she did seem to talk like some other older person.

She also still has a fantastic memory and a good ear so it’s possible she overheard and repeated things (things we didn’t even know she had overheard!) quite a bit before she started talking more fluently.

I was born and raised in India and in the eighties I remember there were a spate of stories about children who spoke extensively about their past lives, down to minute details. It spurred a whole lot of discussion about reincarnation which is a part of Hindu philosophy, and then it somehow died down.

I think my son might be my father reincarnated. I never speak about my childhood because of the trauma. So he would not have heard anything. My son has an interest in geographical locations that were important in my father' s life. They are random places that most people would not want to visit.

When he was younger he would describe buildings that my father built. He has no knowledge.

My daughter used to say”when I was here before” when she was a toddler. Referring ti a time before she was born, insisting that she remembered. Interesting

I’m a believer. My child said something really creepy when they were about 3. I’m not going to repeat here because I’ve told my friends and I don’t want to admit I’m on dcum 🤣

So interesting, I tend to be a skeptic but have read about this UVA research before and for some reason was just reading about it recently so it was interesting to see this article.

My kids never did this per se BUT one reason I’m intrigued is that when he was about 3, my DS (who was/is pretty verbally advanced) was just chattering away and said something very matter of fact along the lines of it being the case that people have past lives as other people. I tried to ask some questions snd didn’t get anywhere but it kind of made me take notice because we hadn’t really discussed death of anything.

Such stories are interesting.

I am glad they are being studied and documented.

I suspect people will be quick to suspect/criticize the families. But ofcourse no one can know what is happening.

I love stories like this. I don’t pretend to know if it’s real and am not particularly interested in hearing people argue one way or the other. I just want to hear more stories like this.
