I would love to live in old town. I love the water and would love to have a boat there and be able to walk to dinner and drinks all the time. However, I have kids, and that’s not the time of life we are in right now.

Most of the people that I know in Old Town are single older adults or empty nesters. It is very charming and has cute restaurants and retail and a waterfront. I think for that demographic, it's one of the best places to live in the DMV if you want walkability.

I rented there then had a small duplex. 15 years I guess. It was completely unremarkable outside of Old Town, the people were boring and unfriendly, and not once did I think I care that I’m here. The city government was beyond my influence in any way as if I could do anything about the schools. I left with not a second thought. Parts of Old Town are beautiful and unique though. I love the history in that sense.

Why would anyone want to live there? The schools suck. They’re increasing property taxes by a huge amount this year. What am I missing? What’s the draw? Old “charming” townhouses?
