Interview but be clear at each step (including before the interview) about what your relocation tolerance is.

Don't do it - put your needs first. If hey are pursuing you that heavily they either don't have other candidates interested, as good as you or the job isn't great. All reasons to NOT give in to their demands to relocate.

Right so why relocate.

Are you ok with the travel? I agree that sounds awful.

Anyway, I would not wait until the offer to tell them you won't relocate - among other things, you risk burning your friend. Either tell them no, or tell them you're interested but relocation is a barrier.

Pass! That sounds awful.

Tell them you won’t relocate.

They almost certainly won’t change the policy for you and you’ll have to let this go.

Even if you don’t relocate, travel is 40-50%?

Have you finished the interview process/is there a job offer incoming? I would say no to relocation and be clear that you’d love the job otherwise and see if they shift their stance. If not, it’s not the perfect job for after all.

It’s a negotiation. You can only take the job if it’s remote, they have to decide if that’s acceptable to them. If you’re still in the interview phase, I’d move forward but be honest about what you’re looking for.

Op here- left out that this only got on my radar because a friend at the company sent my LinkedIn to the exec. Said ‘hey this is a really good person, theyre what you want and would maybe be interested’

I didn’t apply, I was definitely chased down because my friend was right.

I would absolutely let them know that relocation is the only obstacle. If they really want you, they might reassess the role to see if it can be a remote position. If the final answer is no, then it is no.

This is the company I want, job title, potential salary, etc. only problem is it’s in a metro area that…I have no desire to be in. I would cover the whole US and travel is 40-50%. Managing Director level reporting to the Chief ____ Officer but I’d have no direct reports.

I have no problems traveling to HQ if needed. I’m obviously at the senior enough level that I know what I’m doing and can be successful from where I am. My immediate family is here and parents are aging so moving and not being able to grab dinner with them is…no thanks.

Do I even pursue this and see if I can secure an offer with the ‘I thought about it and relocation isn’t in the cards at this time.’ Approach? Or do I just walk away and say it isn’t a fit?
