"For the third and fourth grading periods of a course, withdrawal is only considered in situations involving medical or other family hardship or other extenuating circumstances as evaluated by school administration. For the fourth grading period of a course, withdrawal can be effected only prior to computation of the final grade."

I don't think they'll let you withdraw at this point. We looked at it for a terrible experience last year and they said it was too late

My understanding is the teacher has been setting very tough tests and exams and the overall class grade is also on lower side. She shared some of the coding questions in the tests, they were fairly complex and definitely require lot more time solve even for someone who codes for a living.
Can she take the college board exam and based on the results of that exam make a decision on withdrawing? Is the school grade more important or the college board exam or are both considered for college admissions?

College admissions is not going to spend the time to ask you why. They don’t have time when reading 1000s of applications. It’s not that personalized

is it AP CS Principles or AP CS A?
I would recommend WP over C, as enrollment in AP CS A conveys student's interest in computational and quantitative thinking, which is a plus for engineering major applicants. So C wont look good in this area, while WP leaves it ambiguous beyond student performance. Most engineering applicants to UVA, VT would have AP CS A with an A on their transcript and a exam score of 4 or 5.

If she found the course somewhat enjoyable, I would suggest retaking it with the assistance of a tutor. It is not that difficult if there is one on one timely help, and for student that has the appetite to take on engineering major. However, if she didnt enjoy programming at all, then it may be best to move on and demonstrate rigor in other math and science course selections.

3.9 is her weighted GPA.

She is a Sophomore, her overall GPA in Freshman year was 3.9. She is interested in pursuing engineering but not sure which branch. Doesn't have much of an idea on the colleges to apply, hopefully UVA or VA tech or GMU because they are in-state for us

They know it's a C or a D. It looks bad either way.

But it's an elective class, so it's not part of recalculated "core" GPA.

What's the student's overall GPA? Whar tier of selective college are they hoping for?

What grade is the student in? Best bet is to try again next year and get a better grade.

What the interested college major?

My kid will likely get a C grade on his AP CS class. I see FCPS has an option to withdraw from the course in which case they will record WP (withdrawn
passing) in the grade report. I am trying to understand any downside to withdrawing in terms of how college admission officers will view the withdrawal. Any feedback or past experiences would be much appreciated.
