Know a student that was rejected from USC (California) and reluctantly went to UVA. Applied to transfer her 1st year and was accepted. And decided to stay at UVA afterall.

Hope your kid falls in love with wherever they are going and keeps and open mind. Transfer could be an option but you know, grass isn't always greener!

It seems to be a strategic entrance these days at all state schools because of the college admissions process. I think if your end goal is to reach a certain school, go for it.

Isn’t that only for students who applied to UVA and were offered the Wise campus for freshman year? I’m not sure the automatic transfer is valid is you just apply directly to Wise.

Yes this is just for waitlisted applicants. If rejected you could still go ahead and go to Wise but it would just be a regular transfer application not a guaranteed pathway. So why not spend the year somewhere more enjoyable

You never know what's going to happen. It's not ideal that he isn't excited about wherever he's going, but it's possible that he will make great friends, enjoy the classes, and decide to stay after all. A lot of kids talk a good game about transferring but end up staying where they are once they establish themselves a bit. It will be fine either way.

One can find the good in the current situation and look to achieve their original or even new goals. It's not a zero sum game and the kid should be encouraged to achieve their desired goals.

I feel bad for kid who heads to a college he plans to leave as soon as possible. But, here we are.
