This is a joke, right?

Rice graduate here. The STEM classes are very hard and many people get weeded out. Other majors are okay. Don’t listen to all the naysayers. I loved Rice and got into an ivy grad program afterwards. Amazing place and I still look back on my days there fondly.

Engineering = pretty hard

Other = harder than average but not a pressure cooker

Which would you pick?

I kind agree. Name recognition and job placement outside of Houston is not great.
I like Rice a lot but I'm not sure it's worth the cost.

This is not accurate. Esp. after the pandemic, recruiting has gone online. If you look at job outcomes, majority of Rice graduates are located in the coasts and Chicago. Of course there are grads in Houston/Dallas/Austin but what you are saying is outdated. Please be a responsible poster.

OP asked "How hard is Rice" so this is kind of off-topic.

Coming from California, many would say Berkeley is a better deal than Stanford. But I can assure you that very few families would turn down Stanford for Berkeley. Even with the Regents and Chancellor's scholarship, DC still chose Stanford.

Easier and less stressful than schools like Columbia and Chicago where grade deflation is rampant.

Not very. I was just there. It's about the same as VA Tech.

Rice is not for slackers, but if your kid was high achieving enough to get admitted, I'm sure that they can do the work. Fwiw I recently met a Rice professor (STEM) who said that post-pandemic there's more grade inflation than there used to be. I specifically asked, because it's definitely true for my kid who is at a less competitive school than Rice.

It's hard, very hard - for very little. Who's ever heard of econ or stats coming out of Rice? It's an engineering school. It's for grinders working in an outdoor.

Rice is a terrific school, esp for STEM and if your kid got in then obviously the admissions people thought they could do the work. Where are you deciding between? Try and find the best fit for your kid, not necessarily the best prestige!

Hello. DC is thinking of committing to Rice tomorrow. Anyone with recent experience? I am worried they could fail out if it's as hard as I think. Yes, I know DC was accepted but the admissions staff were looking for a specific type of student I believe. Thoughts? How hard is the BA stats or economics program there? What of other humanities majors? Thank you. I am extremely worried to accept the offer.
