An Estate Sale company gave us a quote for 1- putting on an Estate Sale at my mom’s home 2- handling donating the appropriate items. 3- hauling/recycling the leftover stuff - leaving us with an empty home.
It was a big fee, but I wanted to pay it - money well spent, IMO.

Sister opted to do the estate sale herself. It was super time consuming but gave her emotional satisfaction to handle/price all the items and chat with the people who came by.

We then handled getting various folks to pick up donations- time consuming!

Then 1-800-Got Junk

I used Ararity Services. I took out what I wanted, then they cleaned everything out. They sold or auctioned the stuff they could and I got a cut.

I would contact Caring transitions. they will handle it all, clean out, estate sale, donation, etc. I think it works for homes that have some okay things, nothing super valuable but not all junk either. I've picked up a few items from CT auctions when I was furnishing my mom's new place.

Some moving companies will do this. There are senior move companies that are specialized. Estate sale companies will be picky about accepting the house for a sale. It has to be “worth it.” Financially.

If you think there is anything salvageable an estate sale company is probably the easiest end-to-end solution, although not the cheapest. That's what we did for my parents' house (Dad died, Mom moved in with my sister). They moved a few furniture pieces to the new place, sold the most expensive piece (golf cart) to a neighbor, siblings/grandkids picked out some momentos, and then the estate sale company came in and handled everything else -- dumping the junk, selling anything that would sell, donating the rest, and then cleaning the house top to bottom so it could go on the market. Basically, the fee is reduced by anything they recoup from the sale and I think mom ended up owing them a few thousand, well worth all the work.

If you don’t want to do an estate sale, you just go through and remove anything valuable that you want to keep or sell or donate, then hire a junk hauler.

What does your spouse say? Not your parents, and a lot of people get weirdly emotional about stuff

Junk removal (most will donate anything suitable and junk the rest) and then maid. Got junk or any of the other ones should work. It’s depressing so I rec planning for a good carry out and a funny movie afterwards.

Where is the house located? Is doing an estate sale an option?
