Depends on the kid. I ordered Adidas slides for my kid and he's happy with them. He wanted to try Crocs, but after trying them on he "loathed and despised" them.

At 13, anything I suggest would be WRONG WRONG WRONG.
But my 13 yo swimmer will wear slides. His 18 yo brother (also a swimmer and coach) will wear sneakers on deck. DD15, who does not swim but ends up at meets, will wear slides or flip flops.

Like everything with teens- it’s kid dependent. I have one who constantly wears crocs. I have another who’s never worn them and only wear slides, usually Nike. Have your kid pick something and don’t overthink this.
