I've never heard of a family with boys at both of them or one anyone who had transferred from one to the other. So no one is going to be able to give you valid comparisons.

We have a lot of boys from our neighborhood at both schools. My sense is that they are about the same academically. I know the overall quality of the college matriculation list is pretty similar. Of course, lots of Prep boys go on to Catholic colleges, especially Jesuit schools.

The big difference between the two schools in who sends their boys to each. You may want to make an effort to understand this before you apply to both.

Prep gets a large group each year from Mater Dei School (30 boys) and from the local parish schools.

If you have a lot of boys in your neighborhood at both schools, then they don’t appeal to “very different” groups.

This is silly OP. The schools are more alike than they are different.

Talk about missing the obvious.

The Catholic families in the neighborhood send their sons to Prep or Gonzaga or St Johns and never to Landon or any secular private you can name.

The families that send their sons to Landon are almost always not Catholic.

Living in the same neighborhood doesn't make everyone the same. There are very different groups in my neighborhood in Potomac.

Don't be silly - pointing to an extreme outlier as if it were a wholly representative example is transparent and gauche.

Be better.

I can’t speak for Landon but I have a son at Prep and the curriculum can be as easy or as challenging as you’d want it to be. As a freshman, you can either take Algebra 1 or you can take honors Precalc. The honors classes are pretty challenging even for the kids who usually do well academically.

We love Prep but if there were one downside to the curriculum, it’s the scarcity of more modern STEM classes such as computer science and data analytics which are offered at other privates ( and publics).

Well, if it’s that obvious, you shouldn’t have any problem supporting your position.

Enlighten us.

On second thought, don’t bother. So few people consider both schools it’s not worth anyone’s time to gin up a comparison.

The alternatives to Prep are Gonzaga and St. John’s. I’m unsure what other schools those who apply to Landon also consider..

I am pretty sure that the poster who said Landon was just trying to make a joke to highlight how silly this thread is.

Based on what?

They are roughly the same academically. They both have a range of students. They both send graduates to Ivy League schools and to Elon and the College of Charleston.

They are also about the same when it comes to emphasis on athletics and alumni involvement/support.

Prep students, staff, faculty, families and alums are heavily Catholic. Landon has a significantly varied mix of backgrounds.

Both are great schools. I have a son at one of these schools and could say very little about the academics of the other. They just don’t get the same applicants / families. I think you will be hard pressed to find someone with kids who graduated from both to give you a real unbiased opinion. I suggest you just visit both and ask questions to their academic teams. Good luck!

Which school is more challenging academically?
