What’s wrong with your clothes going to Africa? Don’t you think there’s demand for professional attire there?

I think a wider circle probably throws away a ton of stuff.

Op if goodwill trashes it, it’s because it didn’t sell. It might just not have a home.

If you give to goodwill won’t they sell it in their store? My teen shops there. I don’t know if places like urban thrift might take some of it.

As Op said, styles have changed. Even professionally leg shapes in women’s work wear are much different since 2018/2019.

But I don’t expect some incel in his parents basement to understand that.

I always think family first when I have things to get rid of. At least twice sometimes 3 times a year I mail boxes full. My sister takes what she wants then shares it with her friend. Anything left over they donate. But it's not only clothes. I get a beauty box every 4 months and at the end of the year I put it all together for my sister. She loves it and it makes a great gift. I don't think I ever used any of the products.

Sometimes there are people on the neighborhood site, Next Door ?, that has people looking for clothes and household items. I tell them to meet me at Walmart and the share begins. I always look for other's needs.

Sending clothes to Africa is better than what you think. Professional people will have a chance to buy them and wear to work. I am African and when I was in my country, most of my niece pieces came from used clothes from Europe that were send to Africa buy people who know and understand the world.
Keep your clothes here and will end up in trash very soon.

Humane Thrift and Gift. Donations on Wednesday and Saturday. It's a very nice store to benefit the Humane Society.

A wider circle is a great suggestion, Doorways in Virginia https://www.doorwaysva.org/ is another option.

Hyper local can be a “buy nothing group” many neighborhoods have them on facebook.

Typical pandemic story — lots of clothes I used to wear to the office. Work from home now as company went fully remote during and after COVID. My body also has changed and so have styles. The clothes are still in good shape.

Designer stuff I might send to the Real Real in case it has any value left in it. But what to do with, say, a few pairs of Banana Repubic slacks? Poshmark is fine but requires a ton of patience especially with this type of stuff. I feel bad just sending it to Goodwill where it will get sent to Africa in some pile of thrown away clothes. But I don’t want to keep them!

So what other options are there?
