So does VYS usually have a large turn out of older girls or is this year an anomoly?

I have a friend who's DD is in VYS. They don't have set teams. They will pull up players from lower teams who are the best to create a roster of 15-16 players for games. So, if you're not on the top team each week your teammates are different. Unsure about McLean, but I've never heard of them doing this. They have set team roster and only guest play when needed (too many players can't make the game, etc).

You heard wrong. Vienna uses guest players the same way. Otherwise rosters are set and NOT 15-16 players.

This comment makes no sense. Rosters are normal size and set well before the game. Are you talking about Vienna rec? Did your DC have a bad experience at VYS house league?

Not sure why you are bringing MYS into this- they certainly have set teams.

Interesting. Seems like a large amount of girls (from outside clubs) going for spots on a single team. Will be curious to see if they add an extra team given this is before some of other "local" teams have their tryout.

That is an interesting take. Their attrition is off the charts. Players leave in droves. Their younger girls coaches drive more players out of the club and out of the sport than any other staff in the area.

What are taking about? The handful that left were always going to leave because they think the grass is greener elsewhere. They were never committed to the program anyway… and that’s fine. But you’ll surprised to hear that many come back … some within the first season. These coaches truly care about their kids and genuinely try to develop every single player top to bottom. Many other teams only cares about their top 7 and everyone else is a backup in waiting. That will NEVER happen at VYS. The system at VYS works and your daughter will not be a lost number in a cruel cog. Some are so hyper focused on getting their kid to what they think the top team is at U9/U10 that they don’t even bother to take a good hard look at where their DC will truly develop in the long run. Those parents of the younger girls at VYS understand this and are happy with the coaches and the program.

Frankly speaking I would answer this question differently in the Fall than I would in the Spring.

In the Fall they try to have as many teams as the number of players will support. In the Spring the collapse the top 2-3 age groups and schedule games playing up in age but down in competition. If your kid wants to get some experience playing for and against older kids it isn't bad.

2009G was not a good year for Vienna, and they only had one team this year (Phoenix). I suspect they will try to get back to 2 teams if they can get enough players.

2008G, I believe they had 2 teams, so would expect the same next year.

Does anyone know how many teams they have at the U16 and 17 level? I’m hearing about a very large amount of kids from other clubs trying out.
