Kid is in Alg 2 in 8th grade and says it's the only class that's not boring. Translation: the only class where she needs to pay attention. Her version of paying attention means doing the freshly assigned homework while the teacher is expounding the day's problems, and then reading for the rest of the period. She occasionally finds errors in the problems, and as soon as she nears the teacher's desk, the teacher goes "OK, what have I got wrong now?".

I don't think she will ever find math difficult in MCPS. She takes after her mathematician father. Her older brother and I had a less happy relationship with math... even though I'm a research scientist. You can still enter STEM disciplines without liking math!

This was me. Also probably ADHD on some level. I never studied and aced math tests. Physics was a little harder so get him into all the physics you can so he dal learn to study before college. I tested out of calc through AP in hs. And went straight to diff Eq in college. Got walloped by it and had to drop the class and take it again. Passing a test in HS even AP and having good working knowledge of the math subjects are two different things. I ended up doing just fine in engineering but that first year was rough going as i had to learn to study.

Not in MCPS ever for math major.

Junior year of college? Although it seems to programming part is more challenging for him than the math (majoring in Computational Modeling & Data Analytics)

Magnet precalculus is challenging my 9th grader. Actually has to spend some time studying for the first time and homework is time consuming.

Algebra but they started in 6th. It really depends on the track they are on.

10th grader still having no problem in AB calc, at least on the concepts, though he still makes careless mistakes.

Calculus is the first time mine needed to make an effort. She’s doing fine (A first semester) but on occasion she asks for extra help.

Current 9th grader sailing through pre-calculus . . . going to take AP Calc BC next year. I am wondering if that will finally pose a challenge/make her work a little harder!

Graph Theory

Pre calc is the class that separates the kids. That said, if your child is math minded, that might be easy too.

Personally, no math class in high school ever felt challenging for me as math is my favorite subject so that sounds normal.

Same for mine. Zero studying. 5 min on homework if not done in class. As. I assume Precalc will be hard and calc doable

Mine is in honors geometry in 8th but I would say same, it's not hard for him but by far his favorite class and he enjoys it. So I feel like he's very engaged it's just not that hard for him because he has a real aptitude for math.
