Brunette is for brown hair, usually darker. That's the definition. If someone has black hair, it's not brunette.

I thought it was for "brown" hair. So if a person of another ethnicity has brown hair, not black, I would consider them brunette.

While I agree that its origin is from white culture, I would not call it racist. For example there are some mix race people who call themselves brunettes. They can call themselves as they wish.

Brunette describes the range of brown from light to dark and all the shades in between. Black is black. There is no light black or dark black hair.

I always assumed brunette referred to anyone with dark brown hair regardless of ethnic origin. So I wouldn’t call someone with black hair brunette but an Asian or African with natural or died dark brown hair? Sure, brunette. May not be everyone else’s definition though I guess.

Does brunette refer to girls with naturally black hair? Predominately Brown hair cultures too?

I never have asked this to anyone in person, but does that term also apply to cultures with predominately dark hair?

I am African and South Asian fwiw.

Can African or Asian girls also be considered brunette?
