What’s a rough estimate on building a garage from scratch?

Agree with PP to get a full garage. Protects car from weather, can be locked, adds a lot more value to the house. Agree 2-car garage if space allows as that now is the norm. (In the 1950s and early 1960s, a family often would have only 1 car, which is why older houses might only have a 1 car garage.)

Note that in Fairfax County, zoning rules are sometimes more lenient about a car port than for a garage. Depending on zoning for the specific lot, space available, and such, some lots might not have space for any garage or only for a 1 car garage. In such cases, a car port might be the only option.

Caports are ugly. Go with a full garage

Might as well build a two car if you have the space. A two car is probably only 10-15k more than a single car.

Does anyone know how much a brick 1 car garage would cost? or a basic carport? Trying to see how much the difference is.
Home is in Springfield.
