OP here. My son would only move to Arlington if he gets onto the same team has his friends. They are very similar in skill level so there's a good chance. MYS tryouts is this week and he'll get an offer from his current team. He want to try out for Arlington but that's a month away. There's no way for him to train with Arlington right now. Schedules conflict and I don't think the Arlington kids would care for a MYS player coming in to "train". Was just wondering if the only thing we lost was the deposit.


My MYS daughter trained with Arlington before tryouts last year, which is how she got a spot on their team.



How did you go about coordinating this?


Contacted the coach- similar to your situation- my child's friend was on the team so the parent made the introduction.

There are dozens of kids ready to take any spot on MYS Travel. Coaches don't care unless you're one of their top tier players.

Are you okay with the team accepting your son and giving him a position, but taking it back later if someone better comes along?

If your son is not competing for one of the top teams (red/white) and/or has not joined the team practices for the team he is interested in, he will likely not make an Arlington team. They do not fill the lower teams (black, silver, gold) with outside players. They fill the higher teams and then push current players down.

Would likely lose deposit. But you should read whatever you're signing when you pay deposit.
Who knows what binding language there is in there. They don't even have player cards yet, so I am not sure if that's the issue - but considering that they structure fees based on how many players, who knows whether they would try to make it difficult if you renege.

You won't need to beg for your player card. All players are protected from this by the state governing body VYSA. Just have your new club request your player card from the old club. And if the old club does not release it in 5 days, the new club puts the request into VYSA, so they can transfer your card for you.

You would probably not loose your deposit if you change clubs, relatively soon, after accepting.

Our son has been playing at MYS. He has a lot of friends in Arlington. We already know he'll get an offer after MYS tryouts, but he's seriously considering trying out for Arlington and seeing if he can play with his friends from there. With Arlington being next month, if he accepts MYS spot can he just drop it if he ends up deciding on Arlington next month? I assume we'll lose the deposit for his spot.
