It's not weird at all. You're an experienced parent and have your own car. Way better than a teen!

If you were my neighbor or an acquaintance, I’d hire you in a heartbeat. Our go to babysitter is in her mid-20s and works full time as a lawyer at a government agency.

I like having adult babysitters because I don’t feel guilty if I’m out past midnight and I trust they can drive themselves home.

Most couples want date night sitters. Come at 3-6pm get paid until 11-2/3am. Little kids go to bed between 6-8 so you have like maybe 3-5 hours of active time and then its usually just reading or watching TV for the remainder. At 20 per hour one night 6-10 hours, thats 120-200 cash. And 20 is the going rate. Do 2 Fri and 2 Sat nights and you've got 400-800 nontaxed funds.

I have considered doing it, but still have two high school students at home. I miss being around little ones, and we could use the cash. I was unemployed during Covid. I was thinking about only doing Saturday nights only, so it doesn't become overwhelming. I'm slightly concerned about picking up viruses from the little ones though. I don't want to get sick so I don't go into my regular job.

Lots of people juggle 2 jobs /work PT in the evenings.
It's more common than you think.

And yet, many people do it.

Great idea OP. Start with one or two families and word will get around in their friend group, you will then have a nice stream of income.

I assume OP means babysitter in the evenings or potentially overnight babysitter - so parents can go away for a night or weekend.

I think that sounds like a great idea - and there probably is demand for it in the DC area and you could be paid reasonably well for your time.

I don’t know anyone working FT who does it but I do know empty nesters who babysit or nanny part time. If you’ve got the energy and like kids, go for it.

I work concessions to pay for my kids’ sports fees—it’s an arrangement though their club but I can make over $400 from tips selling beer at one concert and if it’s a band I like even better. Not sure how to find those gigs as an individual though.

Does this exist? I have a FT NGO job that I love and don’t want to leave even though I could make more money in the private sector. My kids are entering college and our budget will be really tight. Considering working as a night time babysitter on weekends to earn another $500-600 per month. Would that be weird? I also considered driving an Uber but meh, that seems more stressful.
