Not at all. You can buy one in a NY alley.

Take a look at Ball. Swiss movement American watches. Very impressive illumination, with many in the $2500-$3000 range. Take a look at Hodinkee as well.

I explained this above. Though I disagree with PP that AP is in the flashy/instantly recognizable category with Rolex. But in general, I like nice watches that won’t attract attention and wearing a Rolex makes a statement I’m not interested in making.

I think Cartier may fall in this category.

Why do you stay away from Rolex?

I’m more into the AP, JLC, GS side of watches. Well made, high-end, watches for watch people, but not necessarily flashy or instantly recognizable (I sort of stay away from Rolex, Omega, Tag, etc)

But for this watch I just want to fill a gap, not spend a lot - maybe 3000 or less, 5000 in a pinch. What are brands for me to consider that are in the Tag/GS tier in terms of price but more low key to give me some other things to look at besides GS?

Thanks

AP is in the recognizable arena with Rolex. JLC reverso second hand would fall in the price range.
