We installed strip LED lighting under the window sills for the screens (we have a short knee wall under the screened panels). I is great lighting for ambiance - but not to read a book! On a dimmer. We also have one sconce and a light on the fan and that’s plenty but we have a smallish porch. We use the strip lighting the most.

I would put them in, personally. It’s way more expensive to regret it later.

Dimmers make a huge difference but I would also want to consider sconces and perhaps more outlets for lamps depending on the layout.

We have sconces and skylights. We did have an outlet installed toward the ceiling in case we do string lights. We have several other outlets, one of which is heavy enough to handle a space heater (i.e., it's on its own circuit).

how do you have recessed lighting on your porch? My porch has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, so I have dimmable sconces as well as two ceiling fans with lights.

Yes, dimmers definitely make a difference with recessed lighting. I have all of the recessed lighting in our house on dimmers and the only time I use them at full strength is in the kitchen when I’m cooking and when I’m cleaning.

I would have at least two electrical outlets in different locations, not just one, to give flexibility. p

Also, for a screen porch remember that all light fixtures and all power outlets need to be safety rated for outdoor use.

Do you use the recessed lights? I can't imagine them on in a pleasant way - with dimmers are they nice? Trying to figure out if we should take them out of the plans and replace with something else.

Any thoughts/ experiences? Our current design has some recessed lights and an outlet for a lamp. But maybe we should do something with better ambiance? I'm not sure how useful the recessed lights are even if they're on a dimmer.
