Our AAP ES center had kids that split into a few different middle schools. So DC did have to separate from some friends for MS, but not all of them - there was a good cohort at each MS. There were even a few that went to different middle schools but then rejoined at the same high school.

Thank you! This clarifies it!

Keep in mind that if you choose the center for middle school, high school is still the one your address is zoned for. That may not be the high school the center is zoned for.

No you will not get a choice. You’ll have to go to the middle school center associated with your address even if everyone else at the center elementary school is going to a different middle school. Your kid won’t be able to stay with his or her elementary school friends sadly. BTDT.

You will get a choice, just like you can choose either the center or local every year.

Agree that it’s good to ask about the common path. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about middle school too much - you may feel differently about middle school than you do now when that time comes. A lot can change in 4 years.

We're at a center where some kids would naturally go to the center's middle school and some to a different middle school. Every year apparently a few chose to go to the non-center middle school, but it's not most.

Definitely bring it up at orientation to see how the split works for your center.

Ask the AART at your school.

Like many, we have a choice between LIV AAP center VS base school for the rising 3rd grader. Center school is also a base school which feeds into a different middle school than our base school/address. If we select the center school now, will we be allowed a choice of the Center school’s middle school so DC can continue with his classmates?
