It's not "ridiculous" and no one threw money away (why are you so reactionary about other people's money anyway?). If you read the PP you see that it was a "deep clean." That includes things they don't normally do -- such as baseboards, all windows including plantation shutters, ceiling fans, etc.
+1. A one time deep clean costs more because they have more to do. If it’s a scheduled service then they have a lower workload because they’re keeping it clean regularly and have less to do each time.

I would assume the daily rate would be adjusted if you have them come twice a week, maybe slightly less per visit or you can have them do more misc work.

Our cleaners (Takoma Park - this is very location dependent) are independent, come as a team of 3. They clean our 2700 sqft house every otehr week for 200$ a visit, they usually stay 2 hours.
They clean the inside of the fridge and make the beds if we leave new bedsheets for them to put on (but we don't abuse it). No laundry, no cleaning of the porch or any other extras.
We keep our house organized and clutter free and clean in between their visits so our house is not among the super hard to clean.
