They lost their soulmate in childhood or early adulthood tragedy and haven’t gotten far enough along in the grieving.

Clearly I did change his mind since he had been in a ltr before and didn't get married. He said he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Married 20+years.

I don't judge. I'm mid-40s and know enough people in this category to know it can come from a wide range of reasons, including:
- The timing of prior relationships got in the way of a lasting one
- They may have been focused on other things (everything from work to caring for an ailing parent to getting out of debt to dealing with mental health issues) which postponed them looking for a partner
- They may have something in their background that makes them averse to marriage (parents had a bad divorce, some kind of sexual or emotional trauma)
- A very specific or rigid personality that would require a very specific kind of partner, who they maybe never met
And others. I judge people based on how they treat me and interact with me. I do not judge people based on whether or not they are married (or have kids) by a certain point in life.
