It means they live in DC and are not happy with the base public high school so they are only willing to attend the select option that is Walls. They applied for Private schools as well and the kid is more interested in Private.

I would guess that the Private school is not one of the better known Private if they are worried that Walls will be too challenging because many of the independent and Private schools in the DC area are well known pressure cooker schools.

Yeah that sounds like absolute BS.

Do you really think the privates will be less work? If the alternative is a school like Sidwell, I doubt it will be less work.

It's not a great option if he won't do well there.

I would not pay for school when you have a great free option. Maybe you can explain to him opportunity cost and how you can help him with college with the additional $200k you aren't spending on high school.

Did you apply to private schools? What was your back up if he didn't get into Walls?

Yes, it's a bad idea. How much of a bad idea depends on the other options.

He is not interested or motivated to go. Is this a bad idea? He basically doesn’t want a school with so much stress and homework and doesn’t like that sports are so difficult to get to, etc.

But it’s a great school and it’s our only public option so not sure what to do. We could do private but not easily. I’m just afraid he will drown at walls especially is he thinks he doenst want to be there.

Can anyone with a child there weigh in?
