My kids are both in friend groups where gender is very fluid so having an all boys or all girls camping trip wouldn’t be any more comforting to me than co Ed. I think cell service is important and experience. Make sure they all take a first aid class.

My son and his friends car camped and backpacked without adults. There were no females and alcohol wasn't a concern. A couple of the parents were worried about letting them go. While the boys planned for a trip in the wilds of Dolly Sods, WV, which has no cell service, a compromise was made that they could go somewhere closer to home that had cell service.

No. The history of alcohol use is what would make me say no.

This. Car camping would be an even harder no than backpacking. Too easy to make bad decisions as a group with no adults around in an atmosphere that lends itself to feeling removed. At least if they are backpacking, they would be worn out from hiking and it’s too far for the kid with a fake id to run out to get beer. (But, I would not allow backpacking either).

Where are they going? What are they planning to do? Are they generally drinkers/partiers?

Assuming they were reasonably responsible, are going somewhere relatively local, don't have a history of alcohol and drug use, have a competent driver among them, and generally show good judgement I would have no problem with it.

Would you let your DC who is a high school junior go on a co-ed camping trip with just friends, no adults? Why or why not?
