My class of '21 student never even got to visit the school until we arrived for drop-off! That said, we found online events helpful.

How does your son feel about not attending? (You told us about you and your DH, but not the central character, the one who is going to college!)

I'm listening to my son's admitted student's event today. His school admitted 1,937 students and 1,380 showed up for the event.

Go if you have time, don't go if you don't. Really not a big deal at all

there are also kids who go and don't get super excited. sits next to the bro who complains this was their safety, etc. and it can seed doubt when there wasn't before (for no rational reason).

Only about 20% of the admitted students go to ours. It's a fun day, but not an issue if you can't make it.

Like so many have said, it is not necessary but if you can go, you should go because 1) it's fun; 2) you get swag; 3) you get excited about your school (even if you already committed); 4) you can possibly meet your future roommate; and 5) you can talk to professors and admissions personnel in person. During the entire college process, you were trying to hard to woo the school - but now it's their turn to woo you!

This. It is a nice way for your kid to feel desirable and get a flavor for his new peers, identity a roommate, etc.

My kids didn’t even have an admitted students day. It’s not necessary if he already knows where he’s going and is excited about it.

What steps are you taking to manage the anxiety leading up to and through your kid going off to college?

If your kid is fine with it, then YOU need to let go of the anxiety.

Totally fine! This comes up in the parent Facebook group for my kids college all the time. Admitted student days can be fun but also can be overwhelming, especially if kids feel like they have to find their college friend group right then and there. I think they are best for the truly undecided folks or the extremely extroverted. If your kid knows where he’s going and happy with his choice he loses nothing by skipping.

What’s there to be anxious about?

My dc isn’t going to their admitted day. He’s already decided to go to the school but everyone I know is going to their day at their school of choice. I’m anxious about it but dh seems to think it doesn’t matter at all because he already knows he’s going. I guess I just want confirmation that it doesn’t matter! Anxious about it. But also think it might just be mixing with a general anxiety about sending dc off next fall!
