When you finish a restaurant meal, never say “Czech please.”

Slovenia had almost an Austrian feel to me. Though it is beautiful, I didn’t find the people to be fun or warm like in other Slavic countries.

Perhaps because historically they faced a genocide? I do think that casts a long shadow on the culture of a place. Like Armenians in the US.

What? My hometown had a large Armenian community and I found them lively and fun.

Anything that it has, some other country has a better version that is more upscale, better run, easier to get to, etc. etc. Slovakia is kind of like the Kentucky or Arkansas of Europe. There may be some nature or old structures to see but is it really worth trekking there?

How much time have you spent in Kentucky and Arkansas? Both really pretty and fun to travel.

I've been all over the country for family reasons and I agree. That being said, the Tatras are nice if you really want to visit the country.

We went hiking in Slovensky Raj and it was great. Also to the ice caverns there.

Spissky Hrad castle ruins were also stunning.

We stayed a couple of nights in Levoca as our base for both of those.

Bratislava is fun and walkable and lively. It’s a popular destination for stag parties. You can ferry from there to Vienna.

I popped over a few times when I was living in the CR a decade ago. Bratislava was good for a couple of days but I would definitely go to the Tatras and to some of the caves and caverns. Try potato dumplings with sheep cheese.
