I think it's the result of emotional immaturity, and I think the parents often bear the brunt of the culpability for this reason, because if they are not able to demonstrate emotional maturity in a way that helps build a functional adult-to-adult relationship with their child, then how can they expect a 20-something to display it?

Emotional maturity means taking responsibility for your own feelings (not blaming them on the other party or expecting the other person to fix your feelings), respecting that the other person has free will and may not always make choices to accommodate you (since you are both adults), and knowing how to respectfully disagree and resolve conflicts between two people who are, essentially, equals.

I think if the parents can do this, eventually the adult kids will be able to as well (even better if the parents were able to demonstrate this when their children were minors) and even if people annoy each other, there will be a forbearance there and a mutual appreciation that supersedes the annoyance.

Why parents are so annoying and AC so easily annoyed? How to avoid it?
