Get "No Stress Chess" game and start at home if you know how to play.
Have him watch Masha and the Bear episode in which they play chess. We had this DVD in the car and the kids know about chess from toddlerhood.

My school have but it started in Feb. so too late to join.

There are a lot of single day and week-long chess camps (Parktakes, if you’re in Fairfax County). The ones my kid have been to were run by Magnus Chess Academy. A lot of ES will have an after school chess club as well, and if yours doesn’t see if the PTA will organize one.

And they have a kids version called chesskid which is pretty great. Biggest recommendation is for you as the parent to learn and then play with your kid.

There are also quite a lot of after school chess clubs and chess camps for days off. There are also low key tournaments almost every weekend in the area
