For kids? Sea island hands down. I’ve stayed at both multiple times with and without kids.

The Breakers is awesome, but I usually just go there with DH because we like to dine at all of the Palm Beach restaurants, go to the spa, and relax by the pool.

If your kids are well behaved, you will love it. Mine are loud and constantly in motion, so I like a more laid back beach for them- like the Vero Beach Disney resort.

The beach at the breakers is rough- just like the entire east coast of Florida. And, there are sharks too.


If you want a flat ocean, try Clearwater beach and go to the Sandpearl.

I can’t speak to kids at the Breakers, although there were a lot of them. It’s a very nice property, and lots to do in the area. Multiple pools including a kids pool. The beach is fine. If there are sharks in FL waters Palm beach wouldn’t be immune from that. West Palm is the spring training home of the Nats if you are there in Feb/March, which would be fun for some kids.

It’s a bit formal - everyone dressed up all day and night, unless you are at the beach/pool. And food is off the charts expensive if that matters to you. I don’t think it matters to most guests.

My kid loves The Breakers. A friend's mom brought her last year and she wanted to go back as a family last fall, so we took her. It was fun for her because of the arcade, kids area, many pools, beach and playground. If you like seafood and steak the restaurants are lovely. I recommend it, plus it's easy to get in and out of PBI with non-stop flights into DCA and IAD.

The beach at sea island is a lot nicer. The problem w/ sea island is that it’s too far north to be nice except for maybe April - October. They also stupidly sold a ton of memberships to non-sea island real estate holders, so everyone in a condo on st simons bought one and now the beach club is too packed in the summer.

It’s the same as every other east coast beach on the Atlantic.

Agreed, and nothing in west palm beach. It’s like Rockville.

The Breakers is fantastic for kids, and the pools are really nice. We also liked the bike ability of Palm Beach in general. The beach at the Breakers though is nothing special as a PP noted. I wouldn't travel to the Breakers just for the beach.

Have only been to the breakers, but it is incredible. They had wonderful activities for the kids, amazing private beach, great restaurants. Palm beach as a location truly cannot be beat either.

The reviews for both are consistently high, full of loyal guests that return again and again.

The Breakers of course looks to have a better beach and better weather during cooler times of year.

How do the food, rooms and service compare?

Also in terms of visiting nearby towns, any preference for St Simons/Jekyll vs West Palm Beach and the surrounding areas?
