Well, if they’re dumb enough to ride back there in spite of all the warning stickers on the door and the seats that specifically say not to, as well as it being illegal …. I’m sure they’re dumb enough to sue over it.

And this person was a physician. Ponder that the next time someone is on their soapbox bleating about how doctors are defacto experts on everything.

It is hard to grasp how a pediatrician of all people would do something as stupid as riding inside a trailer that is not in anyway designed for safety while moving and has no restraints to protect a human body in the event of a collision, nevermind being near the door so she could be thrown from the vehicle when it opened - and how did *that* happen??

And it wasn’t just her - the husband and daughter were both foolish enough to go along with the decision to ride in the towed vehicle. What was so important to do in there that it couldn’t wait 20 minutes until they reached their destination??

What a waste of life, and when we already have a physician shortage.

From DM

It is illegal to tow passengers in an Airstream in New York State, in addition to being something the company warns against.

An Airstream spokesperson told DailyMail.com the company was saddened to learn of Dr. Woroniecka's death.

'Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends and community.'

They advised their safety guidelines state Airstream travel trailers are not designed to carry passengers while in motion.

'The safety protocol detailed in Airstream’s operating manuals and shared on Airstream’s website advises owners that they cannot tow an Airstream with people inside,' the representative said.

'Many states prohibit carrying passengers in a travel trailer or fifth wheel, and we advise owners to consult their state’s Department of Motor Vehicles for up-to-date regulations.'

You aren't allowed to be riding in one while hitched/moving so this was 100% their fault. She should have been riding in the car/truck pulling it.

Further proof, along with Beechcraft Bonanzas, that doctors aren’t necessarily smart people.

You aren’t. That’s illegal federally and in every state.

It is being reported as a freak accident. I’ve known lots of family and friends with fifth wheels and never heard of anything like this happening. Honestly though I also don’t know of people who allow riders in the trailer as it’s being towed.

Personally I would not rent one if you have no experience with them.

Does anyone have experience in an airstream? Just wondering how this happened and if it was a freak accident or if it is hard to tell whether the doors are shut and locked. We were thinking of renting one this summer.
