Asvertise on Care for a sitter who can help with light housework for $30-$35 an hour and like a 10 or 15 hour minimum and you'll get hits. Good luck.

If it were me, I’d hire a part time nanny/sitter. I’d happily zone out & clean the bathrooms/run laundry while nanny takes the kid to the park…a mental break can be really healthy for the full time parent.

But, I know other moms who would never give up the childrearing & would totally choose to have a weekly cleaner come in to do the cleaning while they go to story time with the kid.

So- ask your wife! It is much easier to hire one or the other ( someone who comes to clean 2 or 3 x wk, or someone who comes to babysit 2 or 3 x wk). And then try it out, you can always adjust.

I don't understand this need to be compensated for procreating. It's all part of the deal of having a family.

What is wrong with you people - all parents need a break from their kids, if a mom wants a few hours 3x a week to go to the gym and shower and call her mom in peace, so be it (or what trash tv or do whatever else). I used to have a SAHM mom pay me for 6 hours a week so she could go read a book at starbucks. At the time I (20yo) thought it was pathetic, now as a mom I totally get it. You need a break from little toddler voices and just being mommied all the time

OP - college students are great for playing with a kid and tidying up (if they know thats the job expectation. My spouse travels a ton, I've had college students come help with bedtime and then clean up the kitchen and they do a phenomenal job

If you want more cleaning vs tidying, separate the two services and get a cleaning service and a baby sitter

Mother’s helpers don’t generally clean; they care for the child so the parent can clean. If your wife wants help without household chores (not childcare), what about getting a weekly cleaner or sending laundry out? If she wants actual childcare help, then yes, look for a mother’s helper.

Not special needs.

You need a housekeeper and no childcare duties. A SAHP with the housecare/cleaning tasks taken off of their plate should be able to handle a 2 year old without assistance. If they can't, it's not safe for them to be in charge of the kid at all.

Lower your standards Op. Make sure you aren't The One thinking she needs help.

How many hours do you need?

I think of this as a "housekeeper" and not either a cleaner or a nanny.

We have a two year old and my wife is a stay at home spouse. My wife just needs some assistance during the day with house chores (laundry, dishawshing, etc) with some light child care duties. It sounds like we need a "mother's helper" but need more emphasis on household cleaning chores than childcare.

Where do I find such a person? I went on care.com and it sounds like people are either FT/PT nannies or housecleaners.
