This. You do not need a tables and chairs for everyone as if it’s a restaurant.

Can you make it an afternoon cheese and wine appetizer party at your house, no tables required, indoor/outdoor. You can keep the wine selection to about 5 types and keep food costs minimal.

Make it start before noon and you can serve just mimosas. Maybe a brunch shower

Op here. I just can’t do that on my own. I’m already hosting a bachelorette too.

Some of the estimates I’ve got were $4500. Crazy that showers are more than rehearsal dinners.

Honestly a party for 40-50 people in a restaurant is not a normal shower. It’s just not. So that’s why it costs so much.

It’s okay in that situation imo to offer two wines and beer. Maybe a mimosa? The restaurant should work with you. You definitely don’t have to give them access to the full menu.

Find a place that lets you BYOB and make a few pitchers of sangria. Spike it with vodka or tequila so they drink less. One white and one red and one non alcoholic. That’s all they need.

Ask the restaurant if they can offer only certain wines?

Can you order several bottles, instead of by the glass? That way you can control how pricy the wine is, plus most people understand that when the bottles are empty, the drinking is done-and won't try to order more drinks for themselves.

I’m hosting a 40-50 person shower by myself at a restaurant. DC prices are already insane and with the room fees it’s $$$ a person.

Who pays for guest alcohol at a shower? I’ve hosted so many showers at my home and always had fun mimosa bars and signature drinks. But at a restaurant, a glass of wine is easily $15 a person and most people would have two. Her friends love to drink and some would even order $20+ glasses. I’m out of options for other places to host so many people, so a restaurant seems my only choice.
