Federal government salaries in this area are not that different than private sector unless you’re an attorney or political appointee. I’m corporate and I have a pension so not jealous of federal government pensions. I am jealous of the stability.

Ask those people if they’d prefer the federal government to pay employees comparable salaries and bonuses like the private sector.

Many of our neighbors have federal pensions. No, no one is jealous of my husband's $83K a year LOLOL.

I’m a gov employee. Maybe you know poor people so they’re jealous.

Nobody is jealous. I happen to be a retired teacher getting a teacher pension. It's not more than I made teaching and everyone knows how underpaid teachers are. I am doing okay, but I'm not taking expensive overseas vacations or like outings all the time. The neighbors can see that. I did get myself a reasonable new car to travel a bit in the area, but that's it.

Honestly for me, someone mid 50s who has been laid off twice, my jealousy of government employees is all about the stability and relative lack of worry about job security. Also, those jobs seem to value longer careers and experience more than private sector ones.

My multi-millionaire uncle used to do this. Now he complains to my mom that I no longer speak to him.

I think people know the pension is not what it used to be and the salaries and bonuses are lower. I think I more jealous of the bonuses and perks I hear about in the private sector.

I've had people bash govt workers in my presence as lazy/unproductive etc and I get pretty annoyed at them, but no one has ever specifically complained about the pension.

I do not surround myself with such morons, so no.

In my experience, nothing stops government bashers.

People either appreciate public service or they don't.

If you have a federal government pension, do you get nasty talk from neighbors or family about it? For example, do they say that their tax dollars are supporting you. Or, the pension is too rich?

If so, do you try to explain your years of service, lower-than-private pay, and monetary contributions toward your pension? Do these arguments make a difference?
