Think about who is taking it. Only kids in LIV or Advanced Math, so kids who are a year accelerated in math. That means that they have scored well on past classes and probably passed advanced on their math SOLs. All of them are going to be in the 90th or higher percentile for math on the iReady. A decent percentage are taking some type of math enrichment outside of school, I would guess at least 1/3 are doing some math work outside of school.

Colvin Run Elementary AAP had many students with scores above 91%. The two 6th Advanced Math teachers have worked well together with students for quite a few years. Some kids take outside Math classes but many do not and do well in math.

Are you basing this on what your child was hearing at school this week?

My oldest got a 99% 3 years ago, my middle just did not get a 99% this year. That’s all the data I have.

Also, self-reporting bias.

What is the high number? The 99th percentile itself or the number of kids in FCPS?

The two scores I know from my kids class are both 99th percentile, his and a friend whose parents told us. There are two kids in his class who I would expect to earn that score, based on the kids interest in math. I am sure that there are others in his class that I don’t know who are capable of earning it.

We watched a YouTube video on the IAAT and the questions that the channel showed were really pretty easy. DS was worried about the test so we tossed it on just so he could see what might be asked, he told us 30 minutes before bedtime the night before the test. I think the time element is the biggest piece for kids because the questions didn’t seem that hard.
