Nobody have free time when having kid(s). They make time.
Sorry but in his eyes you're not that important, OP.

He's just not that interested in you.
At the end of the day when his child is sleeping he could have dropped you a text.
Or early in the morning before they awake.
Either way he's lying.

How old is the child?

Ya, but if he was into it, he'd respond right away. If I were you, I'd keep my options open.

The above is confusing. Give him a break or does he just have dozens in line?

Depends on the kid's age. I was like that when the kids were younger (taking days to respond if I'd remember). However, I got out of the rough patch eventually because I had help. As a single parent, I'm sure it would have taken longer.

You (and your texts) aren’t a top priority. He’d reply quickly or more often if he was very interested and had the mental space.

A few hours, maybe he is busy.
A couple of days? He is just not that into you.

Nobody's too busy for a relationship they truly want.
And +1 to the red flag mom, unless he's a widower.

Clearly he physically can take 30 seconds to respond more often, but if he's working full time and parenting the rest, he might just not have the energy. This is especially true with young children.

Of course. My DH keeps his phone in the bedroom during the day when he's in his office. When he's in our bedroom the phone goes in the office. He checks it 2-3 times a day, or if one of us tell him something is going on and we'd like him to keep it near, like if a kid is going to a new friend's house or I'm going to a dodgy part of town.

If he has 100% custody, then the mother is a hot mess.

Wondering. He works by himself in construction and has his daughter all the time 100% custody. He responds to my texts a day or a few days after I send them. It's irritating me. I have no kids but he says that he texts when he can. He also doesn't want to say why he has 100% custody.
