Was it broken prior to your son "breaking" it?

There was a small side table in the living room that I thought I "broke", but it turned out the legs were already cracked and split and one small bump (which happened when I used the recliner) was the hair that broke the camel's back.

Same. We notice everything, and takes photos of our home often, so thank you for your honesty - especially in a small community where people talk to each about who is a good and bad renter.

I bet they also talk about who is a neurotic host to avoid.

That's fine. But if you are an ahole, people will know about that first, then they can make their judgements.

If it is under the deductible, we don't worry about it, but if we find out you broke something, and you don't tell us, we charge you a much higher sum. One time someone broke something they replaced it with something much nicer, which was appreciated, but not necessary. It was the effort and ability to feel remorse that we appreciated. Some people are dead inside.

Don’t do this, what an ahole move! Then not only do they have to pay the full price of a replacement lamp if they don’t like yours, they have to deal with disposing of it. It’s not your house! Don’t do this! I can’t believe people.

Find a replica and replace it. Appoligize.

Depends on the lamp. You're doing the right thing by letting them know. They may even let you replace it.

Just throw it out and see if they even notice.

OP here; $150 was my first thought too. I’ll contact the property management company in the morning.

Policy verbiage is vague on the cost of damages. What can I realistically expect to pay for a broken bedroom lamp?
