Classic clothing...a comfy pair of jeans and a t-shirt or sweatshirt, certainly doesn't have an age limit

Another 50 year old that bought aerie swim suits, including a bikini and found they are really flattering and better made than some of hte stuff from nordstrom.

I would wear t-s, sweats, jeans, etc. from any brand that fit me. I'd avoid things like the crop tops, stuff that says AE in a prominent way, and stuff that is just overly trendy/fashion victimy.

For the parent that says that their teens reject ae as "too basic," I'm really wondering what they wear. What brands do your teens accept as not "too basic"?

Mid 50’s. I wear arie bikinis

I have no issue with it, but they have been advertising a pair of dark wash, trouser-style jeans lately that look really cute and dress-up-able on the model but are SUPER wide-leg in real life. So, proceed with caution in terms of actual fit

Wear whatever you like. I wear "young" outfits in middle age, because I have the figure for it, but I avoid logos. No one would know what brands I wear just from looking at me.

But seriously. Life is too short. Do what makes you happy. If you're confident, no one is going to think you look silly. You can change people's perception of you by your attitude.

The liberating part of this age is dressing how you want without caring what people think. I remember my great aunt wearing outfits obviously intended for a more youthful demographic and she was fabulous! Wear what you want!

If you can fit into it, great. Build your wardrobe and share clothes!

The thing I’ve noticed is that AE and similar brands certainly are cut or designed for a young woman. Ann Taylor for instance will make jacket sleeves that aren’t skin tight, arm holes that won’t show a bra in a larger cup size and even sizing is different.

Their pants vary in so many ways I completely disagree. They also offer tall and short.

Their pants fit amazingly well. I'm 55 and tall and size 12. They offer tall, many places don't.

My nieces were like are you wearing AEO and I was like yea... and I look great.

My nieces are also very tall so they agree their sizes really fit many sizes well.

Probably. I wouldn't bother shopping there. It's not my style at all.

Well it’s obviously targeted towards teens so the fit / details etc will stand out as different on you if it’s not a generic staple type piece of clothes. Whether that looks silly or like someone comfortable wearing what they want is a matter of perspective. But no, the clothes aren’t meant for you if youre looking to follow the general trends around that

I just turned 50 and just bought 2 pairs of cargo pants someone on here recommended from AE. I absolutely love them. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

I love their clothes but so does my 20 year old daughter. I don’t want to end up inadvertently looking silly.
