Used Safari Infinity in Tanzania. Private tour of the Northern Circuit. About $1k/day for two people five years ago. Nice but not over the top lodgings. I absolutely loved it.

I had a great safari organized by this group:

https://www.porini.com/kenya/porini-camps/

They run their own camps and offer both a camping and luxury tented safari options.

If I remember correctly, I paid about $5k for a six night safari with Porini, blending both camping and luxury tented, but this was in 2015? Probably a lot higher now but worth emailing them and getting an estimate.

In 2018 I went on a safari with my parents to Zambia. Ten nights in South Luangwa plus three nights at Victoria Falls. The total cost for the three of us was around 25k, including airfare.

Gavin Opie organized the Zambian safari for us:

Loved Gavin Opie and his bush camp. It was a fantastic experience.

However, I'd suggest maybe keeping a safari to one week at the most. Six nights/seven days is plenty of time. Then do something else, like Victoria Falls or Zanzibar or Lake Malawi. More options in South Africa.

Oh, look. It’s the person who tells us that Istanbul is dangerous outside of the airport, that Mexico is rife with killers, and that you will definitely be raped in Cape Town.

Where do you live, poster? I’m sure I can find many instances of violence in your hometown.

It’s all over the news today.

Unusual events make the news.

Please don’t get discouraged by high prices listed by some posters. This doesn’t not have to be some crazy luxury trip. Check out South Luangwa in Zambia or Akagera in Rwanda. There are reasonable camps to stay in/near. Yes the flight can be expensive but the whole trip does not have to be!

We did about the cheapest possible as part of our South Africa trip. Rental car from Joburg, stay in a gated family chalet resort community outside of the park. There are a bunch of these around Kruger.

Checking current prices, you can stay for around $60/night and have access to a pool, playgrounds, firepits, and cafe. These are where South African families will stay.

Gametrackers will pick you up and leave in the morning or evening to tour the park, was $40 something a session a few years ago. Saw four of the Big 5, very memorable!

4 nights in South Africa, $3k per night per couple. Note there are expected gratuities for staff that you will want to include in your budget.

My info is pre-COVID/7 years old but we hired a private tour company for a 7-day safari in Tanzania. We had 10 people. It was roughly $2000/person for a private guide/car, rooms, food— but that did not include flights to/from Arusha. It was a spectacular experience. The company was very responsive and we were able to communicate in the months ahead about things we wanted to see. We also flew on to Zanzibar afterwards as a couple and had a lovely time there relaxing.

As just two people, you could do your own tour but, if you want to be more budget friendly, you may be able to join another tour group leaving at the same time.

5 days Kenya, luxury not bespoke, $6k per person internal flights included (several years ago would expect this has gone up pretty dramatically)

It was spectacular. That is the high end option.

If you’ve gone to Africa and went on a safari, would you mind sharing the basics of your trip and the estimated cost? Our trip would be a couple trip, just my husband and me. We’ve only started to think about the possibility and I have no idea what the ballpark cost of such a trip would be. I know there are many variables, but a starting place as to what we might expect would be helpful. Ty!
