Turf fields are always open unless it's below freezing or there is lightning.

Grass fields may close often with rain in order to keep them in good shape.

We practiced outdoors for our U11 girls teams in the winter at night when it was often 20 degrees. The girls loved it too.

We rarely cancel (u12 travel) but this is because we have turf fields for all 3 practices. It has only been cancelled because of snow covering fields, or extreme temperatures (hot and cold). Otherwise, they practice in the heat, rain, heat, and cold.

Only if they are on a grass field which is rare.

Well, the coach is getting paid whether you practice or not. Good gig for him.

Our daughter joined a travel team last August. Zero cancellations for weather. They have practiced in the rain many times and recently played a game in a real downpour.

As PPs have said, only lightning usually cancels practices. Even when practice is on a grass field and it’s been pouring rain, the club tries to move to a turf field. When fields were covered because of snow, the club found an indoor location.

My kids are at two different clubs - one high level and the other just ok and they both did this.

DS's team sometimes cancels due to weather, but they try to reschedule for another day that same week if possible.

It takes a lot of work to try to find new fields at short notice so it's really appreciated.

My kids always had practice in the pouring rain. Really, only lightning would cancel practice.

Our soccer is only canceled for thunderstorms. Otherwise, they play through the rain, cold, and heat.

We never cancel. Wind rain and cold, still have practice. Only thunder and lightning gets delayed or severe cold.

What's the average number of cancelled practices for your child's travel team? What age group? Does the club try to make up those practices? DC barely had a fall and winter season. It was like any excuse for cancelling they cancelled.
A little rain but fields still open? Cancelled. Some wind but nothing dangerous? Cancelled. Cold but still within the parameters of when the governing body recommends practices can be held for the age group? Cancelled. Day before a school break? Cancelled. Day after a school break? Cancelled. Game the next day? Cancelled.
