There is definitely not enough turf to go around. Nice grass fields are great except when it rains. Or if it gets dark in the fall.

Bethesda not having their own complex is puzzling

There's an absolutely enormous county grass soccer field complex out in Clifton, like 7 or 8 fields, and no one is ever playing or practicing there.

The "non-profit" clubs do not pay anything like those prices for their turf fields.

There is not enough turf to go around. That's why new soccer clubs really struggle-they can't get practice fields.

There are lots of surplus grass fields that no one wants to practice on.

There is plenty of money in player fees to cover that.

Is there enough turf to go around for so many teams?

Very big price differences between turf versus school/park grass rentals

A high school age club team practicing on grass fields all the time is pretty unusual around here.

If your team isn't getting one practice a week on turf I would complain for sure. Tell them you want a refund at the end of the season for all the canceled practices.

I blame our org for prioritizing multiple travel practices on turf per week for little kid travel teams. High school kids are too fast and big for these pitted, rutty fields.

This is a decent-level club team, but not MLSNext.

Our U14 plays rec. Half practices are on grass, half are on turf. The bigger issue is that the fields with lights are taken by travel teams so practice always gets cut short this time of year

What level team? DS has been playing travel for years. His current team and past teams with one exception have practiced exclusively on artificial turf so practice is never canceled (which sometimes actually sucks). He played for a year with a small local club that sometimes used grass fields but I think that’s because they were cheap.

Does your child's HS age team practice in the spring on turf or grass? I feel like most of the season's practices are cancelled due to club booking mostly grass and it's very frustrating. They never reschedule so it's just free money we're giving away. I wouldn't be bothered if it was just a couple of practices each season but last year there were periods of almost no practices for weeks and it looks like this year is headed to be similar.
