I guess I'm the opposite. I love realistic scenes and enjoy some violence. I'm not a violent person at all either. Game of Thrones was the best series in my mind. I'm waiting until Shogun is over before subscribing to FX, but I'm looking forward to it.

I actually can't watch the cheesy, sickly sweet Hallmark movies or shows like Virgin River. I think people that watch stuff like that are sheltered, unimaginative and separated from reality.

The book might be more my style. I don't see vivid images in my head as I read, so that's possible. But also this might just not be for me overall.

Yes, aware of the Bataan death march. Horrifying. Also don't need more of those images in my head. Someone told me a story once about some kids on the death march, where one of the kids got such blisters they couldn't walk - and their siblings had to leave them behind to die. That's been stuck in my head for years now, too.

I am aware of the book but was a kid when it came out, and never read it. All I heard was how much people loved this show and how many top 10 lists it was getting on. I was super duper not prepared for the man whose flesh was dripping from his screaming face as he boiled to death. Shame on me, I guess! I'm not saying they tricked me, or it should be illegal, I'm saying it was really disturbing.

Personally I think it gets better (and more english speaking/less reading) as you go on. Still violent, but more story oriented.

Totally agree- I watched the first episode with my husband and told him to watch the rest of the show without me. Zero interest in watching people be tortured for my entertainment.

I agree with you. I don’t find violence entertaining.

I did watch Game of Thrones, but I fast forwarded through violence and exploitative sex scenes, which meant I glossed over most of an entire season, I think. At least I could appreciate the memes.

I cannot watch stuff like this - didn't watch Game of Thrones either, even though I love the genre - but the solution is to not watch. I mostly watch comedies.

I am a little sad that shows have to be gory to get buzz or whatever: I wish I could watch a PG13 version of shoes like Shogun. But apparently there is an audience for it.

Sounds like the show is not for you. There is lots of non-violent content to watch instead. Recently I've been rewatching Mad Men. Maybe try that.

My husband has been wanting to see Shogun, so finally last night we put it on. And not even halfway through the first episode there is a man being boiled alive, while screaming, and a baby taken away from his mother to satisfy some honor thing.

I actually just had to leave the room, I got so upset with this stupid show. I have enough terrible things in my head I don't need to forever hear a man screaming as he's being boiled alive for hours.

Anyone else get very upset by violent content like this? I HATE it! I actually like some horror and I love a good murder show, but - jesus. Made me feel pretty good about my choice never to watch Game of Thrones.
