Out of DC. This whole year has been a slap in the face from our DC "leaders". Just when you think it couldn't get worse, it does.

Yes. This is all part of a Congressional confrontation to try and nudge statehood into the national spotlight. When was the last time Biden said anything about DC statehood. The councilofdc is putting the movement in front of our families. They would love nothing more than congress to strip the Council of its powers.

The ABCA protest hearing taking place today is a complete joke. One of the board members literally told a testifying parent that since he is concerned about the dispensary’s proximity to the school, he should simply educate his kids about marijuana. This same board member, who is clearly in support of the business owner, also pointed to the fact that marijuana has been around for a long time and there are dispensaries in Europe and “civilization still exists.” He also told the parent and the school’s witness to educate themselves by driving around the city to see how well-run and well-regulated the medical dispensaries are.

The most notable testimony thus far came from the business owner himself who essentially admitted he would NOT open his dispensary across the street from his own child’s school!

These people disgust me. They hate children, despite claiming to care most about them.

Everyone should write to the council on this. Utterly ridiculous outcome. I don't know what Mendelson and company was thinking.

There are more restrictions on stores that sell beer near schools than on weed "dispensaries." DC's lenient law allowing weed stores near schools also violates federal law. How stupid can the DC Council be? Are they tone deaf to parents' concerns?

CMs Pinto and Allen brought emergency legislation for council vote today to align the transition legislation for gifting shops to become legal dispensaries with the underlying legislation and remove the exemption that allows them to locate within 300ft of schools. 6 council members voted to support restoring the buffer and put the wellbeing of the city’s young people first (Pinto, Allen, Henderson, George, Frumen and Parker). 6 voted against and prioritized cannabis dispensaries over school kids (Mendelson, McDuffie, R White, T White, Nadeau and Bonds). Mendelson put process over purpose and McDuffie blamed Congress for tying the Council’s hands (although he could have voted to support the legislation a prevented dispensaries from opening in close proximity to schools).
