Sort of but not quite the same. Nexus is basically (Global Entry (including PreCheck))+(expedited entry into Canada).

So it's actually better than Global Entry because it gets you the expedited entry into Canada, which is mostly valuable for people who drive back and forth to Canada a lot. Which is why you can only get it at CBP locations near the border, because it's a program oriented towards those who live there, on both sides. If you just have GE, it gets you expedited entry at land crossings, but only into.the US, not into Canada.

It is not the same but the process is painless with kids, especially if you are approved already. We were in and out in 5 minutes per kid.

But it's the having to go in and out with the kid that's a pain. It's not easy to drag them to an interview center at an airport during hours where they will accept appointments. And even getting a slot was hard last summer--there weren't many available.

Wow this is so great. My spouse and I have global entry, but we're not able to use it half the time because our kids don't.

That's fantastic - we have two credit cards that both cover global entry, it will be nice to be able to get global entry for free for all four of us.

Precheck is for US departure. Global entry is for US entry from other countries (ie passport control). If you have Global Entry, you get pre check automatically. The reverse is NOT true - if you pre check, you do not get global entry automatically.

True, but the earlier post about Mobile Passport Control.is a good point, that is a great alternative to GE. If you have say 2 years left of your 5 years of PreCheck, I would wait until that was close to expiring and then sign up for GE for the whole family.

Global is definitely worth it. Coming back from Spring Break, I took my kids through with no lines whatsoever. you look into a camera, they check you off, and done.

If you want to save the cash, download the Mobile Passport Control app. It is accepted at Dulles now. We recently used it upon returning from Spring Break. It took about 5 minutes in line vs the looks of the endlessly long regular line.

Dang! We just got global entry. Wish this had been the policy already. But so nice that it is an option now. I Don't necessarily mind the pay but would have been happy if I could have just done everyone on one email lol.

This is so great!

Shout out to our global entry officer who took the absolute cutest photo of my 3 month old for his card. He looks like a totally put-upon, chunky little bald businessman. Adorable beyond words!!

Are you kidding me? My oldest is ten and after putting it off, I just signed both of my kids up.

Overall smart changes to the program. I know some people have been put off from getting Global Entry because they maybe travel internationally as a family once every 3 or 4 years, and didn't seem to make sense to pay the extra fee for each child. The base rate is going up to $120 in October, but kids under 18 will now be able to be added to your membership for no additional fee. Big incentive for families to sign up, which in the long run helps everyone as that means more people going through customs/immigration faster and fewer people in the regular lines.
