I sometimes go to people's homes to conduct business and they will let their huge, hairy, salivating dogs jump up on me, tear my panty hose, lick my face all the while saying, "Oh, Rover...Rover, she doesn't like that. Get down..." as Rover moves to humping my leg.
Put your dog away when you've called someone to your home for business (or any other reason, really). Again, not saying that the shooter was justified - I really don't know. I just wouldn't rush to judgement against him. My guess would be that the dog threatened him in some way, and that he was carrying a gun because of safety concerns being a delivery driver.
I have a little shi tzu mix and always put him away, but this story is very strange. Seems to me like the dog was protecting the home from this person for good reason: 1. not the actual instacart shopper who should have come 2. was carrying a loaded weapon onto the property.
