+1. Good for her.
I'm the PP and one thing I would add is that I think we should, as parents, reward this level of vulnerability. She is only going to go as far as she thinks the community will accept, which means we need to be messaging the board of education and telling them that we support this, that we are concerned about safety and security, and that we would like to see MCPS and the board of education put this at the highest level of priority.

The BOE Business Meeting on April 11 is going to be a "big update" on how the system is responding to the countless safety and security issues that have been happening in MCPS schools. This email is an attempt by Dr. Felder to posture to the board and MCPS community that she takes those things seriously and is pushing to prioritize it.
Unfortunately, they're just empty words. The state of security in MCPS is in actuality not in a good place.

I don't think this is anything particularly new, but I do appreciate the message.
To me, as a long-time MCPS parent, it made me feel more "heard" than previous messaging on this topic. Even just mentioning suspension and expulsion as options is a step further than earlier Superintendent emails on the subject.
Basically, within the confines of political realities, I think this suggests she is willing to move in the direction of more accountability.

I don’t know, but I thought it was clear, proactive, and gave me quite a bit of confidence that Dr. Felder is committed to doing a better job in this area with the various tools and resources she has. I thought it gave a good perspective into various facets of the issue and I give her kudos for hearing that this is a top priority and working to lay out the solutions, investments and changes each stakeholder group can make.
