FCV 2010s are a good team—they tied and beat BSC at a tournament in May—but as noted FCV is falling apart. If a substantial majority of those players followed their FCV coaches to the new GA program at VRSC, then that GA program would be worth considering, but posts on this board suggest at least a handful went to BSC and VDA (where another FCV coach landed), so it’s not clear how many VRSC actually got.

Bethesda is the strongest team in the area, but they are definitely cut throat. The coach is great tactically, but he is harsh and not the right coach for many people. Also, keep in mind they may not actually train in Bethesda. You could end up driving to Germantown in horrible traffic. FVU is a merger so really not sure how that team will look compared to how they play right now. Expect a big roster since they are trying to keep the majority of their best players from two teams coming together. They usually have a really good midfield and the back line and attackers are very athletic. Arlington builds out the back and has a strong defense, but struggles to score. If your daughter is an attacking player, likely she could find herself starting on this roster. Also, their practice fields will be closest to school in DC. All the GA clubs in Northern VA are new (SYC/Revolution) and FCV has a good team, but they have a whole new coaching slate so not sure what those teams will look like next season.

Good enough to play, maybe. Good enough to take a spot away from another player? Not the case for Bethesda, at least. They are a more successful team than her current one.

Generally true with the caveat that there are specific areas of that team which the club actively wants to improve. They might have already done so for next season with departing FCV and/or McLean players, but it’s worth talking to the coach there. Beware parents here trying to run interference for their DD.

Your kid would need to be a superstar on their team to make the BSC team. It's a team that loves "athletes." They look for speed and individual skill vs. the chemistry of an overall team (they are not judging; they get results). Its not clear what the new Union or whatever team will look like. Arlington has nice girls and more of a team-first focus, but it also isn't as competitive.

Not sure why you would have DD play ECNL and not HS - I would t think you'd want to do it the other way around if the idea is to lessen the pressure and have fun!

BSC 2010 team has a core group of excellent players, but there are weak points in their roster. Depending on what position your DD plays, could be a good fit. Massive turmoil at McLean (SYC divorce followed by Brave shotgun marriage) and FCV (entire coaching staff left), so be careful there. BSC and VDA likely benefited by picking up some of their better players. Maybe Arlington did as well, but that team wasn’t as strong as the others to begin with.

ECNL is still pretty cuthroat. Has DD been accepted to a private school as yet? Are you confident she will be?

Personally, I'd aim for Arlington because the personalities on the BSC team are pretty toxic. But you won't want to drive all over Moco at night if you live in VA. In VA, TSJ is the only close enough team. In MD, the GA teams are all closer to Baltimore.

There are other National League teams that could work as well.
