My kid is enrolled in a week-long program this June so I'll report back then!

my son did it the summer after 10th grade. he was at the UC Berkeley campus (we live in SF Bay area) so it was easy to get to and he benefited from living in a dorm for a week. It's only 6 days so the duration seems perfect (not too long, not too short). the other kids were intelligent, highly motivated, well-rounded. As he'd just finished 10th grade, he did not have any exposure to Econ so he appreciated the light intro. He enjoyed the leadership activities.

it was around $2K for the week (including room/board) if I remember correctly, but it's a lot cheaper ($500) if you opt for virtual because there is no food/lodging.

I think the admission rate is not 100% like the very expensive pay to play programs at various universities. this one seems to have stronger selection criteria, and only 50% of kids applying get in!

Kid did it last year between sophomore and junior years. He thought econ portion was pretty basic and leadership portion was not his cup of tea. But he enjoyed other kids and got some value out of being in a dorm for a week. It was pretty expensive.

We already are members of a church.

My son got a mailer a couple months ago. I was interested in learning more but think he's chosen other things to try this summer. Perhaps next year.

You need to take Econ first. That’s been our challenge as Econ isn’t offered at our school until 12th grade.

I am parent age, with one child in the right age zone. I was an econ major.

In what way is belief in the free market dogmatic?

Before signing up, take a look at the funders and decide if their values align with yours. Fringe stuff.

I've heard a few things from other parents at my son's HS. If economics is a potential subject they want to explore and/or eventually major in, it's a good way to sample it and see if your student likes it in practice.

I've heard you can get college credit at University of Colorado (Colorado Springs). Not sure if that can be easily transferred.

To apply you need a strong teacher reference and good grades.

it's well respected and is run by education non-profit. it went virtual during the pandemic and the reviews were it was one of the better and more creative online programs too.

From what I've gleaned they're run by the foundation for teaching economics, which has been around for 50 years and they hold weeklong workshops across the country teaching a combination of intro to economics and leadership skills in a very engaging way. They also appear to be semi-selective (50% admission rate).

Has anyone's child attended either the in-person or virtual programs in recent years? What was their experience like or feedback after attending?
