OP I am in a similar boat with a 6 year old- who will be 7 when I deliver- and pregnant and the only thing I have left is the Ubbi diaper pail and some non-newborn carriers.

Im considering JoyLet subscription but I just checked their website and they no longer have the bundles. So maybe Ill need a registry too.

I remember doing too much too soon so this time I am taking 6mos at a time for the 18 months and then yearly for stuff. So for newborn-6mos: changing station (cheap and easy- we didnt use them after 6 months), bassinet, nursing pillow, mat/tummy time, car seat and bassinet stroller. 6-12 mos: crib, bigger carrier, etc.

Congratulations! We have a 10 week old so we’re in the middle of testing out did we pick the right stuff. We used Babylist a lot, which has guides and reviews on almost all categories of baby stuff. For us, our clutch items that I would put on our registry again have been the following:
Ollie swaddle - it’s expensive but the Velcro is really strong, giving a good wrap and the fabric wears well.
Hatch Sound Machine - we have the version that is rechargeable and comes off of its base. We use it a lot at night to avoid turning on lights and can control it from our phones. The free sound options have really helped sooth our baby. We also got the yogasleep rohm travel machine and it’s been perfect for a small on the go sound machine.
Boppy nursing pillow
Snuggle me organic (dock a tot is also popular but more expensive)
Uppababy Cruz stroller/Uppababy Mesa v2 car seat. We loved that they click together and the system just works. Uppababy just released a new lighter weight car seat that might be worth considering. Most people get the Vista stroller, which can convert to a double stroller. If this is your last, I’d get the Cruz because it’s slightly smaller and less expensive. Also consider getting the infant insert for the stroller.

Other Things
We have the baby bjorn bouncer and it’s still early but ours hasn’t quite taken to it yet as other have mentioned. Not so much a registry item, but we also have the Snoo bassinet. Some friends say it’s a game changer for getting their baby to sleep and others say it didn’t work for them. Ours has taken some time to take to it but now it’s become super helpful. They have sales, including on their refurbished Snoos, which is what we got. The resale value around here will allow us to sell it and get back most of what we paid. Alternatively you can rent it and see if it works for your little one.

On the baby carrier, we tried Colugo, which is less popular but we really like it. It has great padding and fun colors. It can also be adjusted to accommodate newborns without a separate insert.

Even though it’s overpriced, as someone else mentioned, the lovevery gym is really nice. It’s been great to have.

We don’t have this one but some friends really love the Guava pack and play. They’re traveled with it and love how tightly it packs up. When we get one, it will probably be that one.

If you’re doing formula, a lot of friends swear by baby brezza, which can quickly make and heat bottles. They also sell bottle washers and sterilizers. I am breastfeeding and have used pidgeon bottles (recommended by our lactation consultant) and dr browns narrow bottles. Both have been great.

I think rock n plays have all been recalled. Too many people let their kids sleep in them.

Baby bjorn carriers have been replaced by Ergo in popularity.

Op here, thank you for these ideas! I’m so fascinated that swings are out of vogue. I had a bouncer before for space saving reasons and then a friend’s swing converted me. Swings seemed like a total upgrade!

A few more questions:
-are those rock n play things still hazardous?
-do people still wear baby Bjorn carriers? I loved mine but feel like I haven’t seen one in ages so maybe they ended up being bad for babies etc. What’s the alternative?

I wish think it’s cute OP is having a shower since she hasn’t had a kid in a decade. Not tacky.

They now have Velcro swaddles like Halo and Ollie that are great.

My kids liked the fisher price snuggle puppy swing. It's not trendy and it has a large footprint. But boy did they enjoy it when they were very little.

Most everyone I know had a baby bouncer instead of a swing. BabyBjorn is the $$$ option. Baby Delight is $ and Maxi-Cosi is in-between.

Doona infant car seat + stroller combo is quite popular. Uppababy Vista is the popular traditional stroller option.

Yeah, but she doesn’t have any baby stuff anymore. I don’t see a problem with having a registry if friends are asking for that information and want to throw a baby shower. Or even if she doesn’t have a shower, it’s good to know the latest products.

If this isn’t your first baby and you don’t have financial need, maybe make your shower “no gifts” or have a registry with a list of books only.

There is a super cheap Baby Einstein mp3 player and it is like crack to all babies.

My kids didn't take to the trendy Baby Bjorn bouncers. But both of them loved the Baby Bjorn baby carrier.

We got the Chicco KeyFit 35 two years ago because at the time it was consistently rated the top car seat on the market. Based on a quick internet search, looks like it’s still highly rated. Only downside is it’s heavy. But overall it’s been a great car seat. Now using it with our second kid.

As far as toys go, LovEvery is a very popular brand now. The few items we have from them are good quality. We like their play gym a lot.

I haven’t bought baby gizmos since 2011 and over the years ditched most of them. Well, surprise, I’m pregnant again! Kind friends are throwing me a shower and I’m wondering if you all would weigh in on what to put on the registry. Are there any good new swings? What’s the safest car seat? Any random game-changer infant toys? Thank you so much for your help.
