My kid was waitlisted at Cornell. If your kid isn’t going, mine will happily take a spot with my full support.

No mental health issues beyond any other school. If that is your view and you believe that, you should definitely not let your kid go. My kid has a 4.0 and is graduating this year going straight to a top 14 law school (rare out of undergrad these days as top law schools look for time off now).

It offers a lot more than "bottom of the Ivy". Incidentally, it is tied with Columbia and above Dartmouth in the most recent US News.

Strong programs in business, engineering, CS, etc. Not sure what your child will study.

Please don't accept so somebody who wants to be there gets in off the waitlist. For a lot of people it is their first choice.

What bunk! I work with recruiters and they have said that in tough times, the only Ivy they would recruit engineers are from Cornell (and maybe Princeton). Having said that there are a few state flagships that have amazing engineering programs like U Mich but don't make blanket statements like this,

Cornell is ranked in the top 20 or so in every single ranking out there in the US and globablly. To say it is just like state flagships (its the exception of Berkeley and Michigan) just shows your ignorance.

I spent six years there in a PhD program. Ithaca is a great little town, and is on my list as a potential retirement destination. I know things can change, but when I was there in the 90s there wasn’t any particular mental health crisis among the undergraduates.

Really impossible question to answer without more info about your child and what they will study. The life of an engineering student there is very different from the life of someone studying philosophy. It's an incredibly diverse school in terms of courses of study, with lots and lots of happy kids and probably lots of stressed kids, just like at many other top schools.

Based on my child's experience, I don't see any grade deflation -- just an absence of grade inflation. Unless we are really saying that a school that regularly hands out Bs is deflating grades.

And while my student is working hard, their mental health and stress level is fine. Whether a lack of grade inflation matters depends on the field your child will pursue and whether the grad school or job targets they go for will evaluate their GPA based on their particular school.

But a lot of people like the school….
